As I read this verse, my mind is drawn repeatedly to the phrase, “Perfect Brightness of Hope.” For me, at this time in my life, that is where I my focus. I must seek this bright hope that is founded on the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our freedom to choose between eternal life or spiritual death is indeed a reason to “cheer up.”

This gift of freedom to choose was assured by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, but each of us must choose which path to take and act accordingly.

This verse really resonated with me today.  I really need to be delivered from darkness to light, from captivity to freedom! I must trust the Savior to deliver me by his power.

And I, Nephi, did go into the mount oft, and I did pray oft unto the Lord; wherefore the Lord showed unto me great things.

My focus for 2016 is “Simplify.” I want to concentrate my time, thoughts and actions on things which matter most.  I must weed out the extraneous and unimportant, and devote my energies to things of lasting significance.  To that end, I take courage in this principle, that by small things, great things brought to pass.  I will focus on the small bits of goodness that I might contribute to my family, my fellowmen and to God, with confidence that such small things will bring great blessings into the lives of those I love.

My 2016 “Word of the Year” is “simplify.” I am working to weed out the extraneous and unimportant from my life so I can concentrate my best efforts on things of lasting significance, with confidence that my concentration on small acts of kindness and service will bless and enrich the lives of those whom I love.

Next Sunday, I will lead the High Priest Group lesson entitled, “A Christ-centered Life.”

It is appropriate that I really focus on a scripture verse President Benson often quoted. Trying to be like Christ is a big challenge for me, but to center my life in Him is my soul’s greatest desire.

I must listen for the quiet invitation from Christ, I must pay attention, and then I must act to invite him into my life. What an honor and joy to have him share an intimate meal with me in the quiet confines of my home, away from the blaring bustle of the world.
